The motel gardens have won numerous awards including: 1st prize from the Christchurch Beautifying Association in the previous winners' category, the Jeffries Trophy (Hotels/Motels) 2009 and the Galey Trophy for Colour and Impact (Hotels/Motels) 2009.
Known for its parks, gardens and green spaces, the Garden City (Christchurch), is Mary and Tina's perfect home, as well as that of New Zealand's premier horticultural event, the Ellerslie Flower Show.
A Brief History of City Centre Motel
This central city motel is situated in an historic area of Christchurch and is located on Colombo Street, the longest street in New Zealand (originally named after a bishopric from Ceylon).
The motel's site was previously that of a Catholic girls' school and although many buildings from its time were demolished in 1994, you can still visit the nearby Rose Chapel dating from the late nineteenth century. You will also see in the grounds of the motel itself several trees with protection orders, including the oldest gleditsia tree in the city.
