As a city motel, we are not far away from some of the most damaged buildings within Christchurch Central Business District (CBD). In this area (dubbed the Red Zone) many of the city's tallest and oldest buildings once stood - sadly, they were the ones most at risk from earthquakes. Whilst buildings in the Red Zone remain cordoned off and under assessment (to ascertain whether they are safe, whether they can be rebuilt or must be demolished), much of Christchurch (including the City Centre Motel) is operating normally.
As ever, you will find a very warm welcome at City Centre Motel when you visit our still very lovely city. If you are interested in finding out more about earthquakes in New Zealand and the latest news about Christchurch, you may find the below links of interest:
Meanwhile it is Business As Usual
We'd like to thank our regular guests who have not let the prospect of the odd earthquake in Christchurch put them off visiting. We are also busy welcoming new visitors to Christchurch, some on 'earthquake business' and some very much in the mould of the travellers and tourist groups we've welcomed for years.
